SCHEUNE MERIAN GÄRTEN

Our assignment was to transform a randomly assigned building into a 3D animation with sound. We received the Sheune Merian Gärten in Basel.
We focused on the building’s structure, history, and atmosphere, aiming to merge old and new elements. Visiting the space gave us insight into its unique roof construction, hidden rooms, and how the different spaces flow together.
In the animation, slow-building elements like bricks and the roof reflect traditional craftsmanship, while modern features such as stairs and heating appear more quickly, referencing machine-built construction. Another subtle nod to its past use as a car museum is included through a wheel that transforms into a ventilation system.
We emphasized contrasts, both in material
(light/ dark) and movement (slow/fast). The sound design enhances orientation and imagination, connecting past and present through carefully layered audio cues recorded on-site at the Merian Gärten in Basel.
