VERWIRRT

This 8-second motion loop with sound was based on the randomly assigned word Verwirrt. The constraints were simple: work in either black on white or white on black, and follow the format (HD).
For the typeface, I chose DM Sans Semibold for its clean structure and the slightly wiggly, round dot on the “i.” Working in white on black allowed me to create a sense of confusion, with creating white shapes through motion and gradually revealing the central word Verwirrt.
I approached the concept through my own experience of confusion: a brief moment. My sketches explored that emotional shift, aiming to visualize how confusion feels.
The final piece evokes disorientation before resolving into clarity. I combined the animation with a sound of a metal bottle rolling on concrete, processed with flanger effects to feel trance-like and shifting. Like the animation, the sound clears as the confusion fades.
